App Lock

A lock on the app, and a way back in.

A passcode or Face ID in front of your library — and a recovery key, so forgetting it is an inconvenience rather than a disaster.

Passcode
4 digits
Or
Face ID / Touch ID
Auto-lock
Immediately, 1, 5 or 15 min
Forgotten
Recovery key, never a wipe

How it locks

  • A four-digit passcode, with Face ID or Touch ID if your device has it
  • Lock immediately when you leave the app, or after 1, 5 or 15 minutes
  • The app switcher shows a cover instead of your library
  • Your passcode is stored as a salted hash, in a file the system protects and backups skip — not as something readable

Forgetting it is survivable

  • A recovery key in the form FOX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX is shown when you set the lock up
  • You can look at it again, or issue a new one, from App Lock settings — and it survives changing your passcode
  • Enter the key and you set a new passcode. Nothing of yours is deleted, ever

Patient with guesses, honest about scope

  • Four tries are free; after that the wait grows — one minute, five, fifteen, then an hour
  • The wait is written to disk, so force-quitting the app does not clear it
  • This is a lock on the app, not encryption of your library: your files stay ordinary files on the device

Questions

About App Lock

What if I forget my passcode?

Use the recovery key you were given when you set the lock up — enter it and you can set a new passcode. Nothing is deleted, and you can view or regenerate the key at any time from App Lock settings.

Does App Lock encrypt my files?

No, and we would rather say so: it is a lock on the app. Your files remain ordinary files on the device, protected by the device’s own security.

What happens if someone keeps guessing?

After four wrong tries the wait grows — one minute, then five, then fifteen, then an hour. Force-quitting does not reset it, and your data is never wiped.
