A copy, not a re-recording

  • When the audio inside the video is already AAC or ALAC, it is copied out untouched into an .m4a file — same bits, and it takes seconds
  • When it is something else, it is converted to AAC at 192 kbps by default
  • You can choose instead: AAC at 96, 128, 192 or 256 kbps, or real MP3 at 128, 192 or 320 kbps
  • Any video works, MKV and AVI included

Finished, not just extracted

  • Loudness is levelled to −16 LUFS so tracks from different videos play at the same volume
  • A frame from the video becomes the cover art, with the title and artist filled in — MKV and AVI keep the audio but not the artwork
  • You pick the folder it lands in, and can have the video deleted afterwards
  • A video with several audio tracks lets you pick the one you want

More than one at a time

  • Run a batch and watch each file’s progress; cancelling leaves no half-written file behind
  • A name that already exists becomes “name (1)” rather than overwriting anything
  • Make Playable is the sibling tool: it repackages MKV, AVI or TS as MP4 without re-encoding, when a file plays elsewhere but not here

How to extract a soundtrack

    Find the video in your library and open its menu.

    Choose Extract Audio.

  3. 3

    Leave the default for a lossless copy, or pick AAC or MP3 and a bitrate.

  4. 4

    Choose the folder for the result, and whether the video should be deleted afterwards.

  5. 5

    Start it, and keep FoxFM open while it runs — the new track appears in the folder you chose.

Extraction stops if the app is sent to the background, so leave it on screen for a long video.

About extracting audio

Does the sound lose quality?

Not in the usual case. If the audio inside the video is AAC or ALAC it is copied out exactly as it is, with no re-encoding. Anything else is converted, and you choose the format and bitrate.

Which videos does it work with?

Any video FoxFM can open, including MKV and AVI. Those two keep the audio but not the cover art.

Can I do a whole folder at once?

Yes. Select several videos and run one job; each file shows its own progress, and cancelling leaves nothing half-written.

Why did it stop when I switched apps?

Extraction runs while the app is on screen. Leave FoxFM open for a long video, and it will finish.
